Tom Haakman is a visual artist specializing in sculpting unique pieces which intersect religion with technology. Tom let us in on his creative process, the story behind this interest, and what it means to make religious art in the 21st century. His works are a part of the KALEIDOSCOPE exhibition at UNKnowN Art Gallery in Amsterdam, running until the end of February.

As part of the KALEIDOSCOPE exhibition ensemble, Aimes Jowil has joined us for our first interview of the year. The artist let us in on her innovative technique that gives her paintings their signature, flowy appearance, as well as her fascination with nature--- its vibrant colors, organic forms, and its ability to inspire a sense of serenity.

Gregory Dubus is an artist marked by his clear vision and passion for innovation. His work, abstract and conceptual in nature, makes use of personal symbolism and psychoanalytic elements to convey a fascinating story that continues to evolve with the art itself. Our conversation explores Dubus’ artistic philosophy, his experience at the Florence Biennale, and his plans for the future.

Ard Doko’s multidisciplinary approach to his work is as impressive as it is inspiring. While most people may recognize his portraiture pieces, the artist does not shy away from other styles, techniques, and mediums. Ard generously let us in on his beginnings in tagging and the evolution beyond that, his plans for the future, and gave a unique insight into the street-art scene!

Jaskamal Kaur’s art is emotional, transformative, and spiritual. During the conversation with Polina, she discussed her transition to abstract art, embracing change, and what art can teach us about ourselves. Sakura Nakayama’s photography offers us an intimate glimpse into people’s emotions and struggles. Her keen eye for tender and delicate moments results in moving photographs, fostering close connections with their subjects. Nakayama let us in on the future of her work, the difficulties of balancing passion and making a living, and the way photography can make one feel less alone. The artist’s pieces are currently part of the “Echoes of Our Lives” exhibition at UNKnowN in Amsterdam Noord, which will go on until the first of December.

We are excited to kickstart our brand-new series, “UNKnowN x Creative Journeys” with a conversation with our friend and neighbor: Stefan Ormeling! Stefan’s pieces create a dream-like feeling, thanks to the layover technique and surrealistic imagery that the artist has become known for.
