Sjaak & Oko
Known for their unique use of light, Sjaak and Oko combine their respective expertise in painting and design to create abstract pieces which reflect the ambience of Amsterdam.
Inspired by the Red Light District and the plethora of its contradictions, the duo creates striking pieces to reflect the stories of the neighbourhood and its inhabitants.
Each work is marked by contrasts. The smooth stripe of seamless faux leather is juxtaposed with the worn out tiles with paint splattered onto them. The inclusion of lights allows the pieces to take on different appearances depending on the time of day, thus allowing the piece to work with natural elements and resisting stasis.
