Lieuwe van Gogh
Lieuwe van Gogh creates his striking pieces using kitchen squeeze bottles and cutlery, a technique that he developed himself. His paintings and prints are characterized by a combination of harsh, dark lines with colorful elements of neon. Van Gogh also branches out into print-making through the use of the lithography technique. His pieces often combine human and animal imagery, resulting in hybrid-like creatures.
Lieuwe van Gogh’s last name is not just a coincidence, he is indeed a direct descendant of Vincent.
While van Gogh was always inclined towards artistry, graduating at an early age from Mix Art Academy, his unique style developed after his tenure as a sous-chef. The culinary world influenced van Gogh’s technique as he started painting with cutlery and squeeze bottles normally used for condiments. This technique allows him to create and shape the thick, harsh texture of his paintings, gifting them their expressive energy. Van Gogh’s prints made by using lithography often depict a variety of creatures and his takes on cultural icons such as the Madonna. Van Gogh uses the scratch method in the lithographs to give the pieces their shading, resulting in dynamic creations with a forceful vigor.
