Iris Bavelaar

Iris Bavelaar

Known for her unique geometrical compositions, Iris Bavelaar’s pieces are a work of perfect contradiction. Bavelaar favors an asymmetrical arrangement of the shapes across the canvas, while simultaneously achieving a sense of serenity and balance through the contrast of the softness of tertiary colors against the edge of clear-cut geometric structures.

Iris Bavelaar began her artistic journey as a child when she discovered her passion for illustration. She continued to pursue visual arts at KABK and UvA.

Now, she is a full-time professional artist based in Amsterdam, creating both graphic design and paintings. Demonstrating an excellent understanding of aesthetics, Bavelaar uses soft tertiary colors to create a rustic texture that is reminiscent of Greco-Roman classical architecture. The artist brings out the geometric shapes by contrasting the carefully drawn, precise shapes against the soft background. The combination of sharp lines with curved elements resembles a modern take on Bauhaus architecture, and solidifies her work as an exploration of balance through asymmetry.
