Gregory Dubus

UNKnowN proudly welcomes the third place winner of the Florence 2023 Art Biennale, Gregory Dubus! Known for his colorful, geometric abstractions, Dubus is an artist with a clear vision. Completely self-taught, he works with a variety of mediums which continue to foster his artistic evolution. Outside of traditional canvas, Dubus translates his work onto textiles, such as scarves, suits, or even umbrellas. However, most of Dubus’ works are produced on cardboard sleeves, to which he refers to as “Folder Art”.

This ingenious choice of a canvas allows the artist to create works on the go, thanks to the cardboards’ practicality. Besides cardboards, the paper medium is, of course, also used. Recently, the artist has developed a new concept titled “Evolution Art”, in which he transforms a previous work into a new piece by keeping only a few main structures of the original. This project allows the pieces to go through a continuous process of rebirth, maintaining and losing their inherited traits with each transformation. Along with the medium, the composition of the works calls for introspection.

The symphony of colorful, symmetrical and asymmetrical triangles, invites the viewers to meditate on the complexities of our lives. Through the chaos of the composition runs a carefully crafted sense of balance and harmony, allowing us to find peace among contradictions and turmoil.
